Actress Detained After Witnesses Mistook Couples' PDA as Prostitution

Was Django Unchained actress Daniele Watts mistaken for a prostitute – simply for kissing her partner in public?

In an emotional Facebook post, Watts claims Los Angeles Police Department officers stopped her Thursday for no good reason.

“Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers … after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place,” she wrote on Thursday.

Her partner, celebrity chef Brian James Lucas, shared a similar version of events on his Facebook page Friday, and ABC 7 in Los Angeles says police approached Watts after a call from a citizen.

“I could tell that whoever called on us (including the officers), saw a tatted RAWKer white boy and a hot bootie shorted black girl and thought we were a HO (prostitute) & a TRICK (client). This is something that happened to her and her father when she was 16. What an assumption to make!!!” he wrote.

Raw footage taken at the scene shows an agitated Watts talking to a police officer with her hands behind her back.

“You pushed me against the wall,” she can be heard telling the police officer. “I put my hands behind my back and I just stood there.”

LAPD spokeswoman Sally Madera tells that the department is still collecting information about the Studio City encounter.

Watts said on Facebook that she was talking to her father on the phone when an officer initially approached her.

“I knew that I had done nothing wrong, that I wasn’t harming anyone, so I walked away,” she wrote. “A few minutes later, I was still talking to my dad when 2 different police officers accosted me and forced me into handcuffs.”

Watts acknowledged the raw emotions she felt during the incident – and posted a photo of herself crying at the scene.

“I deeply enjoyed connecting with the cops who detained me,” she wrote. “I allowed myself to be honest about my anger, frustration, and rage as tears flowed from my eyes. The tears I cry for a country that calls itself ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’ and yet detains people for claiming that very right.”
