Yes we know Philip Phillips took home the American Idol crown last week. But throughout the whole competition, it was Jessica Sanchez who captured the Latino votes! And though she became this season’s runner-up, the half-Mexican crooner clearly has a bright a future ahead.

“I’m so excited about all of this,” she told us in an exclusive interview. “I’ve been wanting this ever since I was a little girl and I just want people to know, particularly kids my age, that if you put your mind to it you can achieve anything you want.”

It’s hard to believe that a few months ago, Jessica was just another 16-year-old high schooler. Now she’s charmed America and is well on her way to recording an album. As she told us, you can expect plenty of soaring vocals on her upcoming debut.

“I’m hoping to delve into some urban R&B stuff,” Sanchez said. “And a little bit of pop too, but not too much. Not like anything too bubble gum.”

And keep in mind, just because Jessica didn’t score first place doesn’t mean she won’t have a stellar music career. As she quickly pointed out, there have been many other lower-ranking Idols who have gone on to superstardom.

“It’s funny, Jennifer Hudson came in like seventh place and she is one of the biggest ones on Idol,” she stated. “I have so much respect for her. Hopefully I’m one of those people.”

Sanchez also showed plenty of respect for her old pal Philip. In fact, she mentioned how she had a strong premonition that he would wind up the season 11 champ.

“I really believed Philip was going to win,” Jessica confessed. “He’s really an artist’s artist. He sang so many different songs and every song that he sang sounded like Philip. I’m so proud of him and I’m so happy with him.”

And interestingly, while most contestants would be happy that the stress of the season is over, Sanchez told us that she kind of misses all of the excitement.

“I’m really going to miss everything,” she added. “I’m going to miss the people, I’m going to miss the schedule, and just all the craziness of it all.”

We’re sure Jessica has a lot more fan craziness in store when she hits the Idol tour circuit later this summer!
