Growing Pains Showdown: Tracey Gold vs. Kirk Cameron in Gay-Rights Battle

Tracey  Gold has spoken out in the wake of the firestorm created by former Growing Pains costar Kirk Cameron‘s comments condemning gay marriage and homosexuality last week, taking  to Twitter to make it clear exactly which side of the fence she falls on when it  comes to equal rights for all.

Hint: not Kirk’s.

“I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal  rights for all,” she tweeted yesterday. “#NOH8 #LOVE.”

To further drive home her point, she even changed her Twitter icon to  her  NOH8 campaign image, showing her support of the legalization of gay  marriage, a  message that’s proven quite the opposite of her equal  rights-opposing TV  brother.

Unwittingly or not, Cameron sparked the controversy on Friday, when  he told Piers Morgan that he not only definitively did not support gay marriage, but that he would not be accepting should one of his children be gay, and called the very idea both “unnatural” and “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

GLAAD, naturally, was quick to condemn the comments, and urged supporters to  make their criticism known.

“Cameron has the right to share his views, but as a result of GLAAD’s   work,  people of faith who support LGBT people are making sure their   voices are  louder,” spokesperson Herndon Graddick said today.   “Thousands, including many  people of faith, have shared the campaign and   spoken out against Cameron’s  remarks.

“Kirk Cameron’s statements are not only out of touch with the beliefs   of  most Americans, they contribute to a climate of hostility and  falsely  suggest  that communities of faith are not accepting of LGBT  people.”

More than 2,000 signatures have already been added to a Change.org petition condemning the actor’s comments.
