Some late-breaking, pre-holiday news: “Catching Fire” has found its Johanna Mason, THR reports. Jena Malone will star as the snotty tribute in the sequel to “The Hunger Games.”

According to THR, Malone has been offered the part and is in the early stages of negotiations. This news contradicts earlier reports that Mia Wasikowska and Zoe Aggeliki were being eyed for the role.

EW.com, the first site to  report rumors that Malone was in the running, noted that her acting career began when she was 12 years old (“Contact,” as a young Jodie Foster).

SPOILERS AHEAD… In Catching Fire, Johanna is the last surviving female Hunger Games winner from District 7. She forms a tenuous bond with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) before the 75th annual Games. She’s also chummy with Finnick, a role that has yet to be filled.

As we previously reported, Johanna has a strong sexuality in the books (plural because her character also appears in Mockingjay, the third book in Suzanne Collins’ series). Malone, who previously starred in “Sucker Punch” and “Hatfields & McCoys,” will likely have to strip out of her clothes in at least one scene.

“Catching Fire” is set to start filming in late September. Francis Lawrence will direct.
