Initially, las malas lenguas were speculating that Carlina Durán Baldera had “bought” the Miss Dominican Republic crown, and it was all a staged conspiracy for her to win the title. This is all irrelevant now, of course, seeing as how she is married and can’t qualify to run for Miss Universe in the first place.
Durán Baldera was crowned Miss Rebublica Dominicana last Tuesday, April 10, in a ceremony judged by the 2011 Miss Universe, Leila Lopes. Duran would have gone on to compete for the Miss Universe title later this year.
Just ten days after her coronation, the 25-year old model had the crown removed from her fabulously blown-out head. According to pageant rules, Baldera will be ineligible to compete in the international pageant next December. The first runner up, Dulcita Leggi Francisco, will have the honor of competing in the Miss Universe pageant instead.
Magali Febles, beauty pageant circuit personality, stated,
“Lamentamos mucho que se haya producido esta enojosa situación, porque Carlina era una excelente candidata para participar en Miss Universe.”
Carlina hid the fact she was married, which is strictly against pageant guidelines. Pageant officials have no choice but to take away her crown and relieve her of her Miss Universe duties. Febles will be crowning the first runner up, Dulcita, instead.
“Ella (Carlina) ocultó su situación de casada y los organizadores no pueden ser cómplices y aceptar una ilegalidad. En consequencia, no nos queda otra alternativa que retirarle la corona. Estoy llegando mañana (el miercoles) al país para coronar a la nueva República Dominicana (Dulcita Leggi Francisco).”
Do you think Miss Universe contestants should be allowed to be married?
