Michael J. Fox Re-Enacts Classic ‘Back to the Future’ Scene

There are hundreds of brilliant moments in the Robert Zemeckis time-travel comedy classic Back to the Future, but few are as iconic as Marty McFly taking the stage at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance and absolutely rocking out to the Chuck Berry classic “Johnny B. Goode.” But while it looks like it’s Michael J. Fox jamming out in the movie, the truth is that it was session musician Tim May that you actually heard playing. Apparently, however, Fox has used the last 26 years to learn how to play the himself and damn if he hasn’t gotten good.

Shmitten Kitten recently attended Fox’s annual “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s” event and at one point Fox, who has Parkinson’s himself, grabbed a guitar and began playing “Johnny B. Goode.” It’s truly something to behold and you can watch the video below.

So the audio quality is not that great, nor is the video, but that’s clearly Michael J. Fox managing to control his symptoms long enough to play one of the greatest rock hits ever recorded. I honestly got chills at the 1:13 mark when he begins his solo. He sadly doesn’t get caught up in the moment enough to shock the audience into silence (that would have been fairly tricky in this day and age) but it is still absolutely awesome. The only thing that would have made it better is if he ended the song by saying, “I guess you guys aren’t ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it.”
