The attendees of the Viña del Mar, Chile, International Song Festival have been waiting for the return of Reik ever since 2010, when the three-man group was awarded two prestigious honors known as Torches. This week, during the 56th annual edition of this festival, Reik made its much-welcomed return.
After the group’s 2010 performance, vocalist and SESAC Latina associate Jesús Navarro took to social media to announce, “Thank you, Viña, for a great experience and two Torches. We’ll come back for the Seagull (the festival’s other major award).”
He’s kept his promise, because this year the audience at the Quinta Vergara Amphitheater, known as “the monster of the hill” for its high standards, insisted that Reik take home the Gold Seagull and the Silver Seagull award, the festival’s highest honors.
Jesús Navarro, alongside his bandmates Gilberto “Bibi” Marín, who is also a SESAC Latina associate; and Julio Ramírez, delighted the 15,000 attendees in a set lasting over an hour featuring their hits such as “Peligro” (Danger), “Noviembre Sin Ti” (November Without You) and “Inolvidable” (Unforgettable). The audience not only roared its approval but sang along to every word.
The Chilean press gave Reik’s performance expansive TV, radio and print coverage.
Celebrating Valentine’s Day, HBO Latino recently showcased Reik in a 90-minute special featuring band interviews and footage from the group’s iconic concert at Mexico City’s National Auditorium.
After its huge success in Chile, Reik returns to the recording studio to continue working on its forthcoming album.
