Lifetime Makes Deal With Selena Gomez To Produce 'Inner Circle' Tv Series

Selena Gomez will executive produce a drama series based off her life story as part of Lifetime’s newly announced “Fempire,” a roster of TV series and films made for and by women to premiere on the network during the 2016-2017 season. The as-yet-untitled project will also be executive produced by Kevin Spacey and the entertainer’s mother Mandy Teefey.

The scripted series, based on Gomez’s life, will also focus on her friends and “trusted inner circle,” which has most famously included Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato over the years. No premiere date or casting details have been announced.

Gomez’s latest television development comes after the Wizards of Waverly Place star announced plans to executive produce a series for Freeform, the network formerly known as ABC Family. The as-yet-untitled show, also produced by Teefey, is being billed as a “Latina Empire” and will be set in a low-income Los Angeles neighborhood.

The network has also made deals with Janet Jackson, Ronda Rousey and Serena Williams. Jackson will executive produce a movie about the early-20th century New York City mobster Queenie, and Williams will produce Sister Dance, a scripted film based on the annual dance-off competition she hosts every year with sister Venus. Rousey has been tapped for a three-picture movie deal based on her varying passions. Another film, The Michel’le Story, will detail the life of R&B singer Michel’le, who dated Dr. Dre for a year and later married Suge Knight.
