Snl Adds Pete Davidson To Comedy Line-Up

After a shake-up at the “Weekend Update” desk, “Saturday Night Live” continues to tweak its lineup with the addition of a new featured player to the cast.

Pete Davidson will join “SNL” when its 40th season premieres later this month. Here’s a quick bio of the 20-year-old stand-up comic, via Deadline:

A native oStaten Island, NY, Davidson started his career in comedy at 16, using it as a therapeutic outlet after losing his father, a New York City firefighter, on 9/11. Making his rounds in the New York comedy scene, he was spotted by Nick Cannon who took him under his wing. Davidson was a semi-regular on the revival of Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out improv comedy series on MTV2 last year, leading to a gig on the MTV2 comedy/reality show Guy Code. Davidson, who dropped out of college, made his film-acting debut in Cannon’s direct-to-video School Dance.

Davidson also had a small part on Fox series “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” last season, and landed a lead role in a Fox comedy pilot, “Sober Companion,” that ultimately did not make it to series. He also performed a set at the 2013 Montreal Comedy Festival, alongside recently-fired “SNL” cast member Brooks Wheelan.

Wheelan was one of several new cast members that were let go at the end of the show’s 39th season, with fellow newbies Noel Wells and John Milhiser also getting the ax. Mike O’Brien, who had moved over to the cast from the writers’ room, has been sent back behind the scenes for the upcoming season.

In addition to Davidson, “Daily Show” correspondent Michael Che is joining the “SNL” cast as the new co-anchor of “Weekend Update,” replacing Cecily Strong.

Check out a clip of Davidson’s stand-up, from a “Jimmy Kimmel Live” appearance back in April, below. Look for the comic when “Saturday Night Live” returns for its 40th season with host Chris Pratt on September 27.
