NICKY JAM wins three awards, followed by GENTE D’ ZONA with two
SESAC Latina-affiliated artist Nicky Jam was the toast of the inaugural edition of the Latin American Music Awards (LAMAs), earning accolades for his international smash “El Perdón” (Forgiveness), which he wrote and performed. LAMA winners are determined by popular vote.
With 30 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, “El Perdón” is the song that defines 2015. On tour in Europe, Nicky Jam was not present at the LAMAs, but sent along his heartfelt thanks for these three prestigious awards:
Favorite Collaboration: “El Perdón” – Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias
Favorite Streaming Song: “El Perdón” – Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias
Song of the Year: “El Perdón” – Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias
Furthermore, the acclaimed Cuban duo Gente D’ Zona (Alexander Delgado, founder; Randy Malcom, his musical partner), were feted with two awards for their rapid entry into the U.S. and Europe Latin market:
Favorite Duo or Group – Urban, and Favorite Tropical Song.
The members of Gente D’ Zona also served as awards presenters at this ceremony.
SESAC Latina artists also dazzled audiences with their musical performances. Fonseca, the winner of the 2015 SESAC Latina Contemporary Icon Award, gave the world premiere of his song “Ya No Me Faltas” (I Don’t Miss You Anymore), the second single from his latest album Conexión.
The Mexican pop group REIK also received an enthusiastic welcome, as they performed their romantic song “Duele” (It Hurts) with special guest Yuri.
For over 40 years, the American Music Awards have honored the public’s favorite artists and songs every fall with an internationally televised ceremony. This year’s inaugural edition in Spanish was televised by Telemundo.
