With Teeology, Jennifer Lopez Is The Newest Celebrity In The E-Commerce Startup Space 2

Los Angeles-based entrepreneur Brian Lee is a whiz at teaming up with celebrities to put together smart e-commerce plays — his hits include legal document site LegalZoom with famed lawyer Robert Shapiro, subscription women’s shoe site ShoeDazzle with reality star Kim Kardashian, all-natural baby products site Honest Company with actress and mom Jessica Alba.

But his newest endeavor, Teeology, may just boast his most A-list celebrity co-founder yet: Jennifer Lopez.

The site is slated to launch today, according to buzz on fashion news sites. Here’s what what’s being reported: MJ Eng, who has worked with Brian Lee on both LegalZoom and ShoeDazzle, is also involved, along with fashion entrepreneurs Erica Zohar and Jeff Marine. Teeology will have logo tee shirts to be offered on a limited basis starting at $29, while there will also be a permanent collection of basic tees starting at $20.

We’ve reached out to people at Teeology for more info but have yet to hear back, so additional details are scant. Searching around for more information about Teeology online brings up a Facebook page that was launched in November 2011. There’s also a call for graphic designers posted by the company earlier this summer, which gives a glimpse into what its logo shirts will be like:

“Teeology is a fashion-forward luxury tee shirt line, offering shirts for both men and women, and uniquely incorporating elements of crowdsourcing (think Threadless.com), competition (think American Idol), social networking (think Pinterest), and celebrity (think Shoedazzle.com).

Teeology’s styles are trendy, edgy, and fashion-forward. That style will be reflected in our fashionable body styles and must come across in our tee shirt designs. Our designs will be theme driven – ‘Wild West,’ ‘British Invasion,’ and ‘California Dreamin’ are examples of possible themes.”

According to the posting, people who  make winning tee shirt designs will be compensated with $500.

Some people may bemoan the increasing interest that Hollywood types have in the Internet business which is typically the realm of Silicon Valley, but I think it’s just another exciting example of how software really is eating the world. And hey, it’s called show business for a reason — business types are always going to go where the money is, and right now that’s definitely on the web.
