Warner Bros. Gearing Up For ‘Tomb Raider’ Sequel Film With Alicia Vikander

Despite making only $274 million at the global box office MGM/Warner Bros. is reportedly moving forward on a sequel to 2018’s Tomb Raider.

According to Deadline, the studio has hired Amy Jump (High Rise, Free Fire) to pen the script. Sources tell the trade that Vikander liked what she saw in Jump’s scripting. Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons penned the first installment.

Plot and production details are still under wraps at this point, but the first film was based on the popular prequel video game, so it’s possible it’ll be based off the prequel games sequel. It is unclear if Roar Uthaug will return to direct the next installment in this popular franchise.

Released last year, Tomb Raider saw a younger Lara Croft than we know from the Angelina Jolie era as she set out on a voyage to the mystical island of Yamatai in search of answers to her father’s disappearance. The setting was pulled directly from the first of the Square Enix video games. By the end, Croft realizes that the nefarious Trinity organization has a farther reach than she realized, but now she has her signature double pistols.
