Los Angeles-based music producer, songwriter, keyboardist and arranger, Nicolas Farmakalidis (NicoTheOwl) is one the most versatile in-demand producers of the moment when it comes to the current music scene. Most recently co-writing the title song for the new film, X-Men Dark Phoenix in Germany.
Born and raised in the island of Cyprus in Eastern Europe, NicoTheOwl moved to Boston to attend Berklee School of Music, but soon enough he realized California would be the ideal scenario to expand his creative possibilities. In 2005, he established his own studio – Neilaproductions– and started working with hip hop artists such as Immortal Technique,King Solomon and Tragedy Khadafi, as well as international acts like Japanese pop singer AIKA (with whom he scored his first number one single and album on the Japanese charts).
In 2008, he started a long-time collaboration with Megadeth former guitarist Marty Friedman. To date, NicoTheOwl has worked on nine of Friedman albums getting 13 Grammy nominations along the way.
A couple years later, NicoTheOwl started working with Japanese pop star Ayaka Hirahara, leading him to score another number one on Japanese charts. NicoTheOwl has been Hirahara’s live music director since 2010, and he has toured with her through Asia selling more than 200,000 tickets – in Japan only – every single year.
NicoTheOwl continues to garner chart toppers across the Classic, Italian, German and Latin charts with acts such as Lang Lang, Mondo Marcio, Lena (Lena Meyer-Landrut) and Lasso working in their respective genres that include hip hop, rock, pop, jazz and classical. Additionally he has written, composed, and produced music for movies like Zoolander 2, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Baywatch and X-Men Dark Phoenix.
His upcoming releases include singles for Cher Lloyd, Sharlene, X2, besides being currently working with acts such as The Chainsmokers, Arcangel, Isaac Elliot, Naoto Inti Raymi, ISRA, and many more.
