Sleigh Bells are suing Demi Lovato, her label, and producers over what they perceive to be copyright infringement involving their 2010 song “Infinity Guitars.” The lawsuit relates to Lovato’s song “Stars,” which featured on her 2015 album Confident. Producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub denied accusations of copying the song when Derek Miller of Sleigh Bells first made the allegations on Twitter last November.
Yesterday, August 22, Sleigh Bells filed their complaint in a federal court in California, alleging that the work produced by Lovato, Falk and Yacoub “transcend the realm of coincidence.” The Hollywood Reporter notes, and Pitchfork has confirmed, that Lovato’s label UMG Recordings are also named in the complaint. Sleigh Bells are seeking monetary damages and a legal declaration that the parties named in the suit infringed their copyright.
