1D Announces "One Direction: Where We Are" Concert Film

On July 22, 2014, Sony Music and Arts Alliance announced that a concert film titled “One Direction: Where We Are” will arrive in cinemas for a limited time (Oct. 12 and Oct. 13, 2014) and on home video on DVD on Dec. 1, 2014.

One Direction’s 2013 concert documentary “One Direction: This Is Us” was the highest-grossing documentary of the year, with $69 million in tickets sales worldwide, according to Sony Pictures, which released the movie.

One Direction is the biggest-selling act to emerge from “The X Factor.” The group came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010. According to Sony Music, One Direction has sold 45 million singles, albums and DVDs worldwide so far. One Direction’s first concert documentary was “Up All Night: The Live Tour,” which was released directly to home video in 2012.

The members of One Direction are Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson, who originally auditioned for “The X Factor” U.K. as solo singers but were rejected by the show as solo singers. One Direction was formed when Cowell and other “X Factor” decision makers put Styles, Malik, Horan, Payne and Tomlinson together in a group soon after their “X Factor” rejections as solo singers. Cowell was One Direction’s mentor on the show, and he signed the group to Syco Music, the record company that he co-owns with Sony Music.
