'300: Rise Of An Empire' Trailer: Still Sparta

This. Is. Still Sparta. Warner Bros. released the first trailer for “300: Rise of an Empire” on Wednesday night, just under nine months before the film is scheduled for release. (“Rise of an Empire” was originally on the calendar for this August, but Warner Bros. moved the film to March 2014 in an effort to recapture the magic of the first “300,” which opened with $70 million on March 9, 2007.)

Starring Eva Green, Lena Headey, Rodrigo Santoro and a lot of shirtless Spartans (plus original star Gerard Butler as a corpse), “300: Rise of an Empire” looks so perfectly “300”-y that it might seem like “300” director Zack Snyder found time to make the sequel on lunch breaks during “Man of Steel.” He didn’t: Noam Murro does his best Snyder impersonation for Warner Bros., though Snyder’s name is still the big draw (he’s the executive producer). That and lots of slow-motion, sword-and-sandal violence.

“300: Rise of an Empire” is out on March 2, 2014. Watch the trailer below.
