Besides no secret being safe, and the letter A being not all that it’s cracked up to be, there’s a lot we’ve learnt from Pretty Little Liars. The old bell tower is a great place to dump a dead body, girls fight much dirtier than boys, and the party don’t start till Jenna walks in…
Anyway, while we all try to hold onto whatever piece of Rosewood we have left, binge watch as many cast interviews as we can, and anticipate the long-rumoured and now-confirmed Pretty Little Liars spin-off, Shay Mitchell has revealed whether her character Emily will be appearing alongside on-screen partner Ali (Sasha Pieterse) in Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists.

“So I think it’s great – some of the fans may have grown up and moved on, but other fans want more. They want to find out what happens to certain characters. This show will really get into the aftermath of what happened in Rosewood.”
And as for whether she’ll be a part of it, Shay confirmed she’s “spoken here and there””to showrunner Marlene King, but added: “It’s just difficult with all of our schedules right now.
“At the end of the day, regardless of whether I’m on it or not, I will 100% support the show and be a fan of it myself.
“But we’re all just doing so many different things right now, so it’s hard to commit to something like that.”
It comes after Freeform confirmed last month that the game isn’t over yet – giving out a pilot order to Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, with PLL stars Sasha Pieterse (Alison DiLaurentis) and Janel Parrish (Mona Vanderwaal) set to reprise their roles for another series of drama and secrets.
At Freeform, we are committed to delivering shows that push boundaries and become a part of our viewers’ lives. Pretty Little Liars was a cultural phenomenon so it’s no wonder fans wanted more,” said Karey Burke, who’s Freeform’s executive VP of programming and development.
“We can’t wait to continue Marlene King’s rich and revolutionary storytelling with a new crop of leading ladies from Beacon Heights who will hold just as many secrets and lies as Rosewood did.”
The Perfectionists is based on Pretty Little Liars writer Sara Shepard’s book, and follows the adventures of five high school students who bond over their mutual hatred of a school bully.
“Everything about the town of Beacon Heights seems perfect, from their top-tier college to their overachieving residents. But nothing in Beacon Heights is as it appears to be,” Freeform’s description of the series reads.
“The stress of needing to be perfect leads to the town’s first murder. Behind every Perfectionist is a secret, a lie and a needed alibi.”
Pretty Little Liars creator I Marlene King hinted back in June that her new TV project The Perfectionists could provide a link back to her hit original series.
Once the news was confirmed, she said: “I’m beyond excited to continue my collaboration with Sara Shepard, Alloy, Freeform and Warner Horizon.
“I can’t wait to introduce our fans — and Sasha and Janel — to a new world of thrills and chills in Beacon Heights.”
Pretty Little Liars delivered its final endgame in June after a seven-season run between 2010 and 2017.
The success of the show has already seen one PLL-verse spin-off, Ravenswood, air and be cancelled after one season. So here’s hoping The Perfectionists impresses in its pilot and has a bit more staying power.
