A-Rod And J-Lo Are Putting In Efforts To Buy The NY Mets

She’s an actress, a singer, a dancer and apparently a baseball fanatic, or at least someone who is interested in getting into the business of America’s favorite pastime.

According to a report published earlier today (April 20) by Variety, Jennifer Lopez and her fiance Alex Rodriguez are currently making a serious play to purchase a majority stake in the New York Mets baseball franchise. The piece states that the two superstars have teamed up with JPMorgan Chase in order to raise capital for the bid, since the two cannot pay for it on their own.

The Mets are currently owned by the Wilpon family, but they stated they were looking to sell a majority stake in the team last year. A deal with billionaire Steve Cohen was expected to go through, but it fell apart, leaving the family to look for new buyers. At the time, the Mets were valued at about $2.6 billion.

Variety reports that between A-Rod and Lopez, the couple’s net worth hovers around $700 million, and both figures have ranked on a number of Forbes lists of the highest-paid athletes and celebrities throughout the years. While that’s a very healthy total for the two titans, it’s not nearly enough for them to take control of the team, but they could contribute enough to become big players in the space.

The decision to attempt to buy a major stake in the Mets is a bit odd on the surface for A-Rod and J.Lo, but not completely wrong. A-Rod was once courted by the team, who reportedly offered him a very lucrative deal, but he eventually went to play for the Texas Rangers for an astounding quarter of a billion dollars. He then signed with the Yankees, bringing him to New York, where he continued an incredible career.
