Glengarry Glen Ross is going back to the theater, its original form, after being adapted into the somber tale depicted in the 1992 film by the same name. Al Pacino will be starring in the play, only he isn’t playing the Oscar-nominated character Ricky Roma this time like he did in the film.
Pacino will instead play the part of Shelly Levene, the not-so-successful salesman struggling to “always be closing” so much, that he compromises his values to save his position. Jack Lemmon played the role of Levene in the movie adaptation of the original play.
Director Daniel Sullivan, who has previously worked with Pacino in Merchant Of Venice, will be directing the updated play. I’ve never seen the original play, but after watching the film several times, seeing this Pacino-packed version is definitely on my to-do list.
