Alfonso Ribeiro To Be Made As Next Host For 'America's Funniest Home Videos'

Now that Tom Bergeron has joined Bob Saget and others in putting America’s Funniest Home Videos in his rear view mirror, it’s time for someone else to step up to the stage to bring the world a never-ending supply of people falling off of trampolines and dogs singing along to the radio. And that new host will be none other than former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro. There’s literally only one way to react to this news, and it involves a bit of dancing.

The announcement was first made by Tom Bergeron himself on the Season 20 finale of Dancing with the Stars on Monday night, and was then made official by ABC. It makes perfect sense that they would choose someone familiar to TV viewers of all ages, as well as someone with a history of hosting things. According to executive producer Vin Di Bona, the decision to bring Ribeiro to the show involved “hundreds of inquiries, stacks of video submissions, and a very close audition race.” Plus, much like Bergeron, Ribeiro is one of those celebs that always appears genial and ready to make people laugh, which is what a family-friendly show like this needs.

Bergeron and Ribeiro are definitely familiar with one another, as the latter was the winner of Dancing with the Stars in Season 19, proving that he’s not just a one-dance pony. He even guest-hosted Soul Train bac k in 1994. As far as his recent career has gone, Ribeiro has mostly left the scripted fiction programs behind for more hosting gigs. He headed the short-lived game show Spell-Mageddon a couple of years ago, the longer-lived Catch 21, and is currently talking all things edible for Food Network’s Unwrapped 2.0.

You’ll be able to find America’s Funniest Home Videos back on ABC’s schedule when it returns to Sunday nights this fall for Season 26. I absolutely expect a slew of videos of people doing the Carlton Dance in different ways to show up on the premiere episode, and will protest if they don’t.
