Amy Schumer Loses 200 Of Her Audience After Lambasting Trump During Her Comedy Show

magine going to a live Amy Schumer show and being shocked that things got political. Imagine being blindsided by Schumer, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton, discussing the idea that she doesn’t exactly approve of overly ripe clementine and presidential candidate Donald Trump, and being so offended that you boo her and walk out of the show. Well, last night, it happened.

Schumer performed at the 20,000-seat Amalie Arena in Tampa, becoming the first female comic to headline at the venue. After going through her normal raunchy and sex-filled material, she veered into more political topics, doubling down on her endorsement of Clinton and referring to Trump as an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster,” inciting a flurry of boos—and inspiring about 200 people to walk out after she invited them to leave or be escorted out by security. She even invited a Trump supporter on stage just to pick his brain about why he would do such a thing, though she defended him when audience members booed.

In response to the recent allegations against Trump, which Schumer described as triggering in light of her own sexual assault, she asked any other survivors of sexual violence to stand up together, which probably allowed the audience to not only see how prevalent this bullshit is, but allowed the survivors themselves to feel empowered and supported. Schumer also discussed gun control, but those sensitive to political material had already left by then.

An audience member told The Tampa Bay Times, “I don’t want to hear that. We wanted to have a good night without distractions with the politics.” I’m still a little confused as to what these audience members expected from a woman who has appeared with Clinton on Ellen, creating a blonde liberal white lady trifecta, and whose Instagram feed is littered with #imwithhersentiments. But I’m probably more confused because Schumer isn’t as woke as white feminism makes her out to be—her comedy is sometimes racist and she certainly doesn’t seem to acknowledge that even as someone who has overcome way more than any man to get to the top of the comedy scene, she still benefits heavily from that delicious white privilege. So like, what politics are they being distracted by? But of course, people are more than welcome to exercise their constitutional right to be a sourpuss.
