Antonio Banderas will be appearing in a film about the Chilean miners who were trapped in the Copiapó mines back in 2010, titled The 33.
Banderas will be playing the role of Mario Sepúlveda, the voice of the 33 trapped miners and the incident’s “breakout star.” Sepúlveda gave several interviews following the incident, and you can also hear his voice in grainy You Tube videos while waiting to be rescued.
Also co-starring in Los 33 will be Rodrigo Santoro, who will play the group’s second-in command, Florencio Ávalos, the first miner who rode the rescue capsule to freedom. Mario was the second miner rescued from the cave. Martin Sheen will also be starring in the film.
Los 33 will be the official account of the Chilean miners tragedy that trapped the men underground for over two months. Luckily all the men were in pretty good medical condition.
