It’s official: Director Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel follow-up will be called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The movie, which begins filming this week in Detroit, returns Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel and debuts Ben Affleck as the new cinematic Dark Knight. The title hints that that may not be superfriends at first, though they both have a bigger box office problem if Marvel Studios keeps its third Captain America film on the same opening date: May 6, 2016.
The Dawn of Justice part foreshadows the Marvel-esque direction Warner Bros. wants to take its comic-book films, including Snyder’s upcoming Justice League movie slated for release in 2018. Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) are making their big-screen debuts in Dawn of Justice, and both are members of the Justice League in the comics.
The cast of Dawn of Justice also includes Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Holly Hunter in an unknown role, and filming for the movie will also take place in Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific.
