Blade Runner Sequel Will Be Releasing Earlier 2018 Projected Date

We’ll be seeing the return of Rick Deckard a little sooner than expected.

Alcon Entertainment has pushed up the worldwide release date for the untitled Blade Runner sequel, which was initially scheduled for North American release on Jan. 12, 2018. Now, the film will be released globally on Oct. 6, 2017.

Sicario director Denis Villeneuve is helming the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic, with his longtime collaborator Roger Deakins serving as cinematographer. The sequel picks up a few decades after the original left off, with Ford reprising his role as Deckard. Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista have all joined the cast, but character details are being kept under wraps.

Hampton Fancher and David Peoples penned the script for the original Blade Runner movie, based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Fancher is returning to write the sequel with Michael Green. Scott is serving as executive producer.

Principal photography on the film is set to begin in July of this year, with Warner Bros. handling domestic release and Sony Pictures Releasing International set to distribute the film internationally.
