Blake Shelton Fires Back At Westboro Baptist Church Amid Protest Threats

Country singer Blake Shelton doesn’t have an overabundance of patience when it comes to the notorious Westboro Baptist Church. After the religious organization threatened to picket one of his concerts, the singer decided to respond to their notice with some very off-color threats of his own.

On Tuesday, the singer noticed that the organization posted a note on Twitter encouraging followers to join in a protest of Shelton’s Feb. 26 concert in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Sprint Center. It also encouraged those reading to download its song parody of the 39-year-old artist’s hit “Boys Round Here.”

Shelton, who has had a cavalcade of profanity-laced encounters with the group over the years, responded to their post on Twitter with a vulgar message insinuating that he and his crew would be happy to see the protesters.

This isn’t the first time “The Voice” coach has tweeted about the religious group’s wives. Entertainment Tonight notes that in 2013 when the group came after him about divorcing his first wife for Miranda Lambert. Ironically, the singer has since divorced Lambert and started dating his “The Voice” co-star Gwen Stefani. “Ya’ll may want to keep an eye on ur women at my show.. I’ve got a few band and crew guys that’ll be smacking that holy a–!” Shelton wrote.

Although it’s neither the most respectful nor creative dig at the infamous hate group, it’s relatively tame compared to some of his other remarks about the Westboro Baptist Church. TMZ confronted the singer at a Hollywood night club when the group threatened to picket a 2013 show in Kansas City. Shelton responded with a NSFW slur and told the outlet flat out that it could quote him on it.

Shelton will return to TV Monday, Feb. 29, as the returning coach of Season 9 of NBC’s “The Voice.” Sadly, this year, his team may not get a big following from the Westboro Baptist Church.
