Brian Johnson Announces AC/DC’s New As-of-Yet Unnamed Album

Brian Johnson says, with or without ailing guitarist Malcolm Young, AC/DC‘s 15th album is complete.

In an interview with Classic Rock magazine, frontman Johnson said that the band’s new album, their first since 2008′s Black Ice, is in the can, though a release date is not yet confirmed.

The album was completed, said Johnson, following quick final sessions conducted in Vancouver.

Johnson admitted in the interview that Young’s absence was definitely felt during the album’s completion, something that has informed the record as a whole, for which he was replaced by his nephew, Stevie Young.

“Stevie, Malcolm’s nephew, was magnificent, but when you’re recording with this thing hanging over you and your work mate isn’t well, it’s difficult,” Johnson said. “But I’m sure he was rooting for us. He’s such a strong man. He’s a small guy but he’s very strong. He’s proud and he’s very private so we can’t say too much. But fingers crossed he’ll be back.”

Johnson also noted that Young was still in the hospital at the time of the interview, posted today (July 9). It’s still unclear what illness is currently ailing the band’s rhythm guitarist.

Additionally, Johnson speculated on the album’s title, which is not yet official: “I wanted to call the album Man Down. But it’s a bit negative and it was probably just straight from the heart. I like that.”

The band is currently scheduling a tour, though the specifics are unknown. It’s unclear if Stevie Young will take his uncle’s place on the tour as well.
