Carrie Fisher's Health Has Stabilized After Heart Attack Aboard Airlplane

Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher is in “stable condition” after suffering a heart attack on Friday (23 December), her mother Debbie Reynolds announced on Sunday (25 December).

“Carrie is in stable condition,” Reynolds, also an actress, tweeted. “If there is a change, we will share it. For all her fans & friends. I thank you for your prayers & good wishes.”

The 60-year-old actress is in the intensive care unit of a Los Angeles hospital, the BBC reported. Fisher was aboard a United Airlines flight from London to Los Angles when she experienced heart problems mid-flight.

TMZ reported that a medic on the plane administered CPR. Paramedics at the airport spent another 15 minutes administering CPR before getting a pulse.

According to CNN, the Los Angeles Fire Department said it responded to a cardiac arrest at the gate where the aeroplane arrived.

“LAFD responded to LAX Gate 74 for patient on inbound flight in cardiac arrest,” LAFD spokesman Erik Scott told CNN. “Paramedics standing by upon arrival provided advanced life support and aggressively treated and transported patient to local hospital.”

Fisher had been touring to promote her eighth book, The Princess Diarist, which revealed her affair with co-star Harrison Ford during the filming of the original Star Wars. The actress, who also appeared in a new adaptation of the Star Wars saga, had also wrapped up filming Star Wars: Episode VIII, NBC News reported.

The actress, considered to be Hollywood royalty, is the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and entertainer Eddie Fisher. According to CNN, she got her big break in the 1975 film Shampoo, starring Warren Beatty.
