Los Angeles, CA (January 8, 2017) – “A Christmas Song to End Misogyny” a feminist parody of the 1953 classic Santa Baby has become a sleeper hit on Funny or Die. With almost no promotion, the video reached the top spot on the site’s feed and remained #1 from December 27th to January 4th, while Daniel remained #3 on the leaderboard for that same time period.
Like the original, the parody addresses a Christmas list to Santa Claus, with the exception that this one includes unambiguous requests in a humorous manner to help end many of the problems faced by women, that include body image issues, the gender pay gap and the recent disclosure of the decades-long abuse that has plagued them in the entertainment industry.
Emboldened by a stronger sense of community, Daniel wrote the highly-resonant parody in support of all the women who have come forward with their harrowing stories. As further inspiration, she utilized her love for comedy and musicals and her own personal struggles and pressure to fit the Hollywood prototype.
“Right now is such an incredible, empowering moment in my industry; I am so inspired by the women who have bravely spoken out, and by those who stood together in solidarity at the Golden Globes. My video, though comedic and lighthearted in tone, is a tribute to all women who have experienced the pressures and struggles that I have. I’m proud to be a woman in entertainment and look forward to the opportunities that this year will bring!”
