Casey Anthony Will Have ‘Issues’ for a Long Time: Lawyer

Casey Anthony may be a free woman, but it will take her years to recover from everything that’s happened over the past three years, her lawyer says.

“Her life is going to be very difficult for a very long time,” Cheney Mason said Monday on NBC’s Today show. “As long as there are so many people of the lynch-mob mentality, those willing to deny the fact that the jury found her not guilty, she’s going to have issues.”
Anthony, 25, who was acquitted July 5 of murdering her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in 2008, fled to an unknown location under heavy security following her release from jail on Sunday. But her lawyer says the hounding from the public is only part of her troubles.

Anthony hasn’t gotten over the loss of Caylee, “and probably never will,” Mason said, adding that she is also dealing with the effects of having been “locked up in a cage” for three years. “This is very psychologically expensive for a human being, and she will take a while to adjust,” Mason said.

Mason said volunteers have stepped forward to help Anthony financially, and that “a lot of plans had to be made” to keep her whereabouts a secret now. On that subject, he declined to say anything about her location, except to say: “She’s gone. She’s safe.”
