Cee Lo Green Defends His Interpretation of ‘Imagine’

Cee Lo Green recently stirred up some controversy from John Lennon fans when he changed the original lyrics of ‘Imagine,’ the song he performed before the ball dropped in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, to something more all-inclusive.

Anticipating criticism, Cee Lo apologized for his creative decision via Twitter. He tweeted,

“Yo I meant no disrespect by changing the lyrics guys! I was trying to say a world were u could believe what you wanted that’s all.”

Green had changed the original lyrics of ‘Imagine’ from “Nothing to kill or die for/ And no religion too” to “Nothing to kill or die for/ And all religion’s true.” Those three words apparently made all the difference to the angry fans.

Green later returned to Twitter to clarify that his tweet referred to “just difference in general,” not referring to his performance of ‘Imagine.’
