Christina Aguilera has played many live shows in her career. But Tuesday night, after the first live show of NBC’s The Voice, the celebrity coach – who sang Queen songs with her fellow coaches, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green – praised her team of contestants for their poise and determination.
“Running an all-girl team is just the best,” Aguilera, 30, told PEOPLE after the show. “It’s the best feeling ever to see people grow and change and to be a part of someone’s journey who are just such raw talents.”
Team Christina, comprised of Raquel Castro, Beverly McClellan, Lily Elise and Frenchie Davis, held their own against Shelton’s team in the show’s quarterfinals.
“I’m in it because I believed in the concept of the show, and that’s the voice. And I think my team really represented that tonight,” Aguilera said.
Meanwhile, Shelton’s team – Patrick Thomas, Xenia, Jared Blake and Dia Frampton – also had a great night of performances.
Frampton, who sat at the piano to sing “Heartless” by Kanye West, got a standing ovation from the crowd in the studio and high marks from the panel. Green called the performance the “greatest rendition of a song I’ve ever heard,” while Levine said it was the “most refreshing, unique thing I’ve seen on this show so far.”
Shelton was understandably proud: “This is my favorite moment of The Voice,” he said.
Voting began at the end of Tuesday’s show and closes at 10 a.m. next Monday. And next week, Levine and Green will show off their own work when their teams take the stage to compete.
