Coldplay Dedicates 'Fix You' to Dear Friend Mick Jagger As He Mourns

Coldplay isn’t just making music — the band is warming hearts.

During their concert at the Beacon Theater in New York City on Monday, they dedicated their song “Fix You” to their dear friend Mick Jagger, whose longtime girlfriend, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, committed suicide in March.

“It’s for Mick Jagger,” lead singer Chris Martin explained before starting the slow-tempo tune that deals with the concept of recovering. But he wasn’t going it alone. The crowd joined in, belting out the tender song to the Rolling Stones frontman. Martin originally wrote the song for his soon-to-be ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, after her father died.

Martin and Jagger, who have exchanged letters in the past, but have never been photographed together, are both going through difficult times. Martin, 37, recently announced his “conscious uncoupling” from Paltrow.

Coldplay certainly put on a solid show regardless of rough patches. In addition to “Fix You,” they performed other hits from their extensive repertoire, including “Speed of Sound,” “Viva la Vida,” and “Clocks.” They also sprinkled in some songs from their new album, “Ghost Stories,” and wrapped the show with a performance of “True Love,” which Martin asked fans to refrain from filming and posting on YouTube.

“This is our best song off the new album that no one has ever heard yet,” he said before adding, “Sometimes you have to keep these things to yourself.”

It seems that the crowd respected his request, as no videos have popped up of that one just yet; however, videos of the tender Jagger-dedicated song abound. Hopefully, it touched the rock icon as much as it moved everyone else.

Jagger seems to be moving forward as well. A memorial was held in Scott’s honor on May 2 and was attended by many of the late designers close family and famous friends. Sarah Jessica Parker and Ellen Barkin both spoke at the service, and Jagger reportedly played Bob Dylan’s ballad “Just Like a Woman.”
