Elizabeth Banks will play alien witch Rita Repulsa in the upcoming Power Rangers film, and now Lionsgate has revealed the first image of the rebooted character.
According to Banks, the look is “definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa.” Director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) swapped Repulsa’s elaborate headgear and iconic costume for a more reptilian look—a green, scale-like outfit and pointy, gold talons.
Banks told People she’s “never played a villain before,” and is looking forward to the “world domination” that comes with the role. Though Repulsa will still be an “unpredictable” villain, her re-imagined backstory “connects her to the new Rangers.”
Production on Saban and Lionsgate’s Power Rangers film began in late February. The movie is due out on March 24, 2017.
Last week, Lionsgate revealed Power Rangers’ official logo.
