Conor Kennedy, Taylor Swift’s Ex-Boyfriend, Arrested In Tousle Against Man Persecuting Gay Friend

Kennedy scion Conor Kennedy was thrown in an Aspen jail after he was arrested for fighting outside a club in the tony ski resort.

The 22-year-old son of Robert Kennedy Jr. got into a fight outside Bootsy Bellows nightclub at 1:40 a.m. Thursday. He then tussled with a police officer who tried to restrain him, causing them both to fall into a snowbank.

Kennedy, who briefly dated Taylor Swift in 2012, was arrested with help from a bystander and charged with disorderly conduct, according to the Denver Post.

The fight broke out when law enforcement responded to a report that clubgoers would not leave.

An Aspen police officer saw Kennedy grab another man by his shirt, pull him down so he was bent over and hit him four or five times in the back of the head with his fists, according to Aspen police Sgt. Rick Magnuson.

Officers attempted to break up the fight, but Kennedy continued to try to attack the man, prompting police to try to restrain him, he told the Aspen Times.

“Kennedy and I fell back onto the snowbank on the south side of (Hyman Avenue) where Kennedy attempted to pull away from me and stand up,” arresting officer Andy Atkinson wrote in a report obtained by the Aspen Times. “I held on to Kennedy’s arms and rolled him over with assistance from a bystander onto his stomach.” The bystander then helped Atkinson handcuff Kennedy.

He was charged with disorderly conduct, taken to Pitkin County Jail, and issued a summons to appear in Aspen Municipal Court.

Kennedy apologized to Atkinson after he was arrested, the report states, but then added of how the fight started, “He called my friend the f-word,” according to the report. Kennedy claimed the man hurled insults at a friend.

Kennedy is the oldest son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and his second wife, the late Mary Richardson, who committed suicide in 2012. He was arrested before in 2013 for a protest outside the White House.

A family spokesman said, “Multiple witnesses to the incident have reported that two men assaulted Conor Kennedy after he rebuked them for directing a homophobic slur and threats to his close friend. They also report that Mr. Kennedy was cooperative, compliant and respectful towards the police from the moment they arrived on the scene. Mr. Kennedy looks forward to a full airing of the incident.”
