Controversy Surrounds Kim Kardashian’s Engagement

You would have had to be hidden under a rock-pun intended- to have missed the ginourmous rock Kris Humphries spent a third of his yearly salary on, to propose to Kim Kardashian.

The 20.5-carat stone is so big it even looks fake, and has been described by many as grotesque and distasteful, yet apparently on blogs and social media the controversy is not the ring itself, but what’s behind it.

It seems the ring is so freaking big that Humphries was even able to include two inscriptions on the back of the sparkler. According to People Magazine one read a one verse [Proverbs 31: 10-31] about the perfect godly woman while the other [1 John 3:18], is about love.

Blogs and chats were on fire with an open war between Kim Kardashian‘s fans and haters.

Among the issues battled, a list of the most bizarre and yes, very entertaining claims ever, included:

1)    That Kris Humphries is an attention starved athlete who even got himself a Public Relations manager soon after beginning to date Kim…

2)    That the proposal was specifically planned by producers so they could add excitement and drama to the new season of the hit reality show “Keeping up with the Kardashians” which apparently captured the whole proposal on cam…

3)    That Kim Kardashian bought the sparkler herself back in 2008 and even wore it on red carpet events…

4)    That Humphries must have mistaken his bride-to-be when choosing those very cheesy inscriptions in the back: Come on, people… is “the perfectly godly woman” a girl who made the biggest chunk of her money and fame by doing a hot sex tape?  “Very Godly indeed” quoted a hater on one of the forums.

5)    And that the proposal came on the heels of Kim Kardash’s pregnancy… (This last claim even made it to the cover of OK Magazine, which read: “I Am Having a BABY!”

6) The Kim’s mother, Kris Jenner, is defending her on internet forums

But Kim herself tweeted yesterday:

“This is crazy! I am NOT pregnant! Magazines can be so tricky with their wording! The inside states that one day I want a baby! But I’m not pregnant. I can foresee lots of crazy, made up stories coming out in the near future and I certainly don’t have time to shut down every rumor. But believe that if you hear it from me, it will be true. Otherwise, don’t always believe what you read, dolls.”

Although I completely agree that this is without a doubt a well-calculated engagement that fits perfectly with the reality show season, I would not call it entirely fake. On the other hand, I don’t think Kris Jenner has that much of free time to be sitting there on her computer posting all day and lastly, amidst all of the controversies, guess who’s laughing all day way up to the bank?
