It’s official: Maria Grazia Chuiri has left Valentino. Discovered in 1999 by Valentino Garavani himself, who appointed her as head of accessories, she went on to succeed him as co-creative director of the house after his departure in 2008. For 17 years, Chuiri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the modest, Italian-born duo at the head of the Italian fashion house, have worked together to reinvent Valentino’s flamboyant design codes, introducing a gentle liberty with more volume, fluid lines, softer colors and graceful, simple silhouettes. Following the label’s Fall/Winter 2016-2017 Haute Couture show in Paris yesterday, July 7, 2016, Valentino has just announced the departure of Maria Grazia Chiuri, making Pierpaolo Piccoli the label’s sole creative director. A poignant moment in the history of the Italian fashion powerhouse.
