Starring as a woman laughing her way to the new American dream in “Cristela,” stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo is bringing you a family comedy show loosely based on her life and stand-up routine. A Mexican-American stand-up comic, Alonzo has officially made waves a the first Latina to create, write, produce and star in her very own show and has been an inspiration towards many Latina women of various ages.
Cristela Alonzo has expressed that she is proud of what she has accomplished despite her humble origins. With only a love for theatre and a joy for acting she left home on her own to persue her dream.
Raised by a single mom, who immigrated from Mexico, who’s only goal was to make sure her children were provided for told them to abandon any dreams for the future because they “couldn’t afford to have an imagination.” Cristela reveals that when she left home, her mother kneeled down and begged her to not throw away her future.
The comedy star also roped in some good friends and fans Carlos Ponce, Maria Canals-Barrera, Terri Hoyos and Gabriel Iglesias with recurring and important roles thought the series.
