Fans of the blockbuster film, The Hunger Games are in for a treat next season. The CW has picked up a show with a similar premise, The Selection, in which contestants compete to marry the prince of a war-ridden futuristic society.
It doesn’t involve a fight to the death, but The Selection is based off Kiera Cass‘ trilogy of the same title and promises to appeal to fans with similar tastes.
The books tell the story of thirty-five girls who have the opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth, to live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
While not much info is available regarding the cast, we do know that Friday Night Lights star Aimee Teegarden was the star in the pilot, but there is a possibility she could be recast.
All we know of the series is that it is set in a dystopian future, and a young girl, played by Teegarden in the pilot, is selected in a lottery to be queen to a war-torn nation, where hunger and carnage are the norm.
It doesn’t appear to have as violent a premise as The Hunger Games, but there is still that element of competition and despair that makes it suspenseful. The focus on the story is catching the eye of the prince, not teenagers engaging in a fight to the death.
Will this be like The Bachelor on steroids? I hope it’s a bit more exciting than that. Tune in to the CW during the 2012-2013 season to see for yourself.
Will you be tuning in to watch The Selection when it premiers on the CW?
