Deleted scenes from The Hunger Games Mockingjay – Part 1 have been released this week. One clip features Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) being threatened by Donald Sutherland’s menacing President Snow. The film, in which Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) becomes the poster girl for a rebellion against the Capitol and President Snow’s Peacekeepers, does not feature much of Peeta. At the movie’s close, he is in a state of psychological torture, feeling nothing but hatred for Katniss.
The scene, which was teased as part of an online treasure hunt, reveals more of Peeta’s story – he is cynical towards Snow, saying “I’m sick of the blood. But from what I’ve seen it’s more on the hands of the Peacekeepers.”
Two other scenes surfaced at the weekend, whetting fans’ appetite for the remaining scene, which required unlocking with instructions hidden in binary code. One features Katniss being given a make-over by escort Effie.
In the other, Katniss and Haymitch disciss Peeta’s fate.
Once the teaser was decoded, fans diligently got #UnlockMockingjay trending on twitter, and a site starting tracking their progress. However, before they succeeded the final video was leaked on Tumblr.
