“Frozen” is coming back to the big screen.
Disney said Tuesday that it will released a new animated short, called “Frozen Fever,” in the spring of 2015.
Like the 2013 blockbuster hit film, the short will be directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee. It will feature a new original song by “Frozen” songwriting team Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez.
“In ‘Frozen Fever,’ it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa’s icy powers may put more than just the party at risk,” Disney said in its announcement.
The studio did not say how the short will be shown and whether it will play in front of one of Disney’s feature film releases.
With nearly $1.3 billion in worldwide ticket sales, “Frozen” has been a massive hit and Disney has been using the brand to try and boost revenue throughout the company. The studio announced plans for the short during a TV special, “The Story of Frozen: Making of an Animated Classic,” that aired on its sibling network ABC.
