Eddie Murphy Returning To Standup Comedy With New Netflix Deal

According to a new report, the legendary Raw comedian and A-list actor is already negotiating with Netflix for a new comedy special deal, allegedly worth upwards of $70 million.

Murphy—a longtime dream guest for the Netflix series, according to Seinfeld—acknowledged during his appearance that “I’m going to do [standup] again. Everything just has to be right. You have to get up there and start working out.” The pair joked that Murphy “not doing stand-up drives people crazy,” and Murphy even revealed that the late Don Rickles had likewise pushed him to return to the stage.

Murphy also addressed a possible standup return during a screening of his Comedians appearance at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles. “You’ve got to start all over again, but there’s no way around that process; you have to go do it that way,” he explained. “We’re talking about a lot of rust. Actually, I think I would be like a fish to water; it’s who I am.”

For his part, Murphy hasn’t done much standup since his landmark Raw and Delirious specials in the 80s. Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed any potential specials, but the comedian’s Cars appearance is now streaming.
