Guess who’s back?
Eminem used Sunday night’s MTV Video Music Awards to unveil the street date for his next album along with its title.
The follow up to 2010’s Recovery will hit stores on Nov. 5 and be called MMLP2—as in Marshall Mathers LP 2. The set is a sequel to 2000’s critically acclaimed The Marshall Mathers LP, which spawned such megahits as “The Real Slim Shady,” “The Way I Am,” and “Stan” and went on to become the rap superstar’s biggest-selling effort, with 27 million copies sold worldwide.
Eminem announced the news in a commercial for Beats by Dre, the hugely popular headphone line launched by his mentor and longtime collaborator, Dr. Dre, who coproduced MMLP2 with Rick Rubin. He also hyped the release on his Twitter feed here and here and premiered a snippet of the first single, “Berserk,” in the ad as well.
At the same time, Eminem also took the opportunity to join Instagram, posting a pic of his computer screen with a shot of the 40-year-old hip-hopster holding up both middle fingers and flipping the bird with a link to his website.
Yup, Marshall Mathers, you’ve been missed all right.
