Final Season Of Glee Gets Cut Short And What It Means for the Show

Over the weekend, it was announced that the final season would only run for 13 episodes instead of the traditional 22. Explaining the reasons, E! News reported CEO and chairman of FOX, Peter Rice telling press at the TCA awards: “We want to go out in way that celebrates it. We thought that a final 13 episodes and compacting it and doing it in a straight-run was a better way to finish the show.”

So with the season being cut, what else can we expect from the sixth season?

How many times will Naya Rivera feature in season six?

Santana is one of our favourite characters on the show but earlier this month, it was reported that Naya Rivera – who plays the role of Santana so well – would not be making a comeback as a regular cast member. Whilst there has been no official comment from the actress, a source told E! News: “Naya wants to have more time to explore her music and other endeavors.

Old cast members are welcome back!

Good news for fans of the likes of Mercedes and Puck as Ryan Murphy has spoken openly about wanting the old cast members back on the show for the final season. Speaking to TV Line recently, Ryan said: “I think everybody wants to come back and end that story correctly, so that’s our answer. Anybody who wants to be a part of that ending, we’d love to have you.”

Location:

As the seasons have continued, Glee has moved from the high school halls of McKinley High in Ohio to New York where fans got to follow the lives of Lea Michele’s Rachel Berry and Chris Colfer’s Kurt as they began their NYC adventure after graduating. But the show won’t be staying in the Big Apple for the final season as Ryan confirmed to TV Line: “The final season is not New York-centric at all. It really is a lovely, fitting season that dwells on the original people on the show and what happens to them and how they give back.”

Storyline:

The ending of season five saw Rachel jet off for the bright lights of LA so surely, a branch of the storyline will focus on her adventures there? But Darren Criss, who plays the role of Blaine, predicted that something big is going to take place. Speaking to E! News, he quipped: “There’s a nuclear bomb. Season six is actually about the post-apocalyptic nuclear fallout in Lima, Ohio… There’s always a song and dance about the nuclear bomb.”

And if that wasn’t all, Ryan Murphy also confirmed that there will be a time jump when the new season returns. He told TV Line: “We are going to do a time jump. And my feeling about the last season of Glee is very clear, and that is that we have, or we will be, reaching out to all the regulars on the show — the original group of glee club members and teachers, and anyone who wants to come back.”

When will it air?

A specific date has not been released yet. However, the final season will air in 2015.

So there you have it, we’ll keep you posted with any more updates on the final season of the show.
