Jose Canseco is no stranger to chisme headlines and this week, he stirred up a ton of buzz after officially entering the Toronto mayoral race. That’s right, the ex-MLB star is hoping to launch his Canadian political career, despite the fact that he’s not even a citizen.
Jose actually does have a strong connection to Toronto though. Back in 1998, he was a slugger for the Blue Jays and gave the team 46 home runs in a single season. But will that be enough to give him the city’s highest seat? Canseco certainly thinks so and he’s started a #yeswecanseco Twitter campaign to prove it.
“The hug store is open! I am trading hugs for displaying #YesWeCanseco signs to get the word out on mayor run. Just tweet me pic,” he posted last week.
Jose also assured his followers that the mayoral run was no joke.
“I will not burn out,” he Tweeted. “I will not fade away. I am immortal and will always stay here with you.”
While it’s certainly an interesting gesture to the citizens of Canada, we doubt that current mayor Rob Ford has anything to worry about.
