Frank Ocean Cancels Tour With Coldplay On Account Of Scheduling Conflicts

Frank Ocean has elected to forego the European stretch of his tour with Coldplay. The singer is also canceling appearances at multiple concerts, including Way Out West in Sweden, the V Festival, Bestival and Pukkelpop.

“Let me start by saying I feel like an asshole right now,” a statement released by Ocean begins. “But a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as f–k, I’ll be back if you’ll have me.”

Billboard notes that Ocean also stopped in the middle of a gig at the Oya Festival in Norway. Vocal problems were given as the reason for the abrupt ending.

Touring with Coldplay is a pretty big get, so it’s hard to imagine the rationale behind Ocean’s decision. At press time, no further reason was given for the cancelation, though he had tweeted about fatigue in recent days.

Ocean’s debut studio album, channel ORANGE was extremely well-received by critics. The full-length effort featured lush production, over which the R&B singer’s voice worked through tales of love, heartache and class differences. Pre-release buzz for the album — which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard chart — surrounded lyrics which appeared to recount Ocean’s love for another man. In a blog post on his tumblr, Ocean recalled his experience with a “malignant” love for a man who did not — or could not — return the sentiment.

HuffPost Entertainment reached out to Ocean’s camp, who said he had no further statement on the tour cancelation.
