It’s cold outside, but it’s “Frozen” on the Billboard charts. As the Josh Gad-led animated movie crushes it at the box office, the film’s soundtrack has picked up some serious steam as well. The polar vortex of pop has even done the unthinkable, booting Beyoncé’s surprise self-titled album from the #1 spot after three weeks at the top.
The “Frozen” soundtrack, featuring songs performed by stars Gad, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato, moved up three spots to #1 for its highest chart position to date, thanks to sales of 165,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan. The album has sold nearly 503,000 copies to date, or, nearly double the sales of Britney Spears’ Britney Jean, which moved up four spots in its fifth week, even as sales were off another 51 percent to 15,000 for a total of 209,000 to date.
In the process, the magazine reported that “Frozen” is just the fourth animated film soundtrack to reach #1 in the 58-year history of the Billboard 200 chart.
