Get ready for a lot more monkeys at your local movie theater. After the success of last summer’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Fox has fast-tracked a sequel, which may include creative input from Guillermo del Toro.
So far, del Toro’s on a short list of possible directors for the 2014 release. Fellow Tr3s fave Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is being considered, as is Looper mastermind, Rian Johnson.
Titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the next installment is expected to follow the exploits of Caesar, a former lab chimp who has vowed to destroy humanity. No word yet on the human cast, but we imagine they’ll wrangle up some top talent (and a possible return from James Franco).
If you ask us, Guillermo would be a fantastic fit for the franchise. He certainly knows how to build cinematic suspense and we would love to see him interject a few of his trademark horror elements into the Apes uprising.
