The Witcher fans have been given their first look at Henry Cavill in character as Geralt of Rivia. Netflix’s official Twitter account shared a 20-second teaser of the Superman actor in the new fantasy series, sending fans into complete meltdown. The 35-year-old sported a silver wig in the clip, with a dark suit of armour, as he took a sip from his flask. We were given no other details, other than the fact the series is coming in 2019.

And fans were thrilled to catch a glimpse at the star – who drew comparisons to other film legends. ‘But, Henry Cavill? He looks like an old Legolas,’ one commented. ‘I don’t know why everyone is complaining. I think this Legolas casting for Amazon’s new Lord of the Rings series was spot on,’ another wrote. While a third went with a completely different fictional character, adding: ‘Its Lucius Malfoy.’ And many more questioned his lack of beard.
Well, we think the Cav looks great. The Superman actor was officially announced as the lead of the fantasy series, based on the hit gaming and novel franchise of the same name, earlier this year. The show’s writer and creator Lauren Hissrich announced the news, revealing he was first in through the audition room doors for the role and ended up capturing everything that she and her fellow execs wanted and more. ‘I didn’t have writers or scripts yet – just a greenlight and a lot of passion. That was four months ago, and I’ve never forgotten the passion he brought. He IS Geralt. He always has been. I’m so thrilled to welcome HENRY CAVILL to the #Witcher family,’ she wrote. Filming for the series recently started in Hungary, with Freya Allan, Anya Chalotra and Adam Levy also starring. The Witcher – based on the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski, and subsequent video games – has already been tipped to help us all get over our Game Of Thrones mourning, when the fantasy series comes to an end next year.
