This is a report brought to you by the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes.
According to the National Hurricane Center, storm surge is the greatest hurricane threat to property along the coast. As we approach the most active part of the year, now is the time to prepare.
Superstorm Sandy caused more than sixty billion dollars in damage caused by flooding, which is not covered by most homeowners insurance policies.
Dr. Rick Knabb, director of the National Hurricane Center, urges preparation:
“People need to find out today if they live in a hurricane evacuation zone. Knowing whether or not you can safely remain in your home is the first piece of information you need to begin making your family’s preparedness plan.”
Leslie Chapman-Henderson, President and Ceo of The Federal Alliance For Safe Homes:
“There are a host of resources available to help families get ready including the FloodSmart Cost of Flooding Tool, FLASH animations to help demonstrate flood mitigation and our disaster safety FLASH Card with checklists for emergency plans and kits.”
