Christmas just got a whole lot colder. Ice cold. Ice Cube cold.
Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” is getting a modern retelling, with Ice Cube portraying Scrooge. First off, whoever thought of this casting is a genius. Another run of the mill remake about a holiday story that we’ve all heard a million times would most likely get a collective eye roll from movie fans and then tank at the box office. But with the casting of a mega star like Ice Cube, a man who has practically copyrighted his own scowl, this movie may actually have a chance to be entertaining, and see some decent popularity during the oversaturated holiday movie season.
The film, titled simply “Humbug”, is being directed by Tim Story, the director behind a few of Ice Cube’s other films including Barbershop and Ride Along. Expected to get a 2017 winter release, this film may actually be a forgivable remake. The caliber of Ice Cube is reason enough to be excited, with his hardcore persona being enough to have us all curious about the spin he’ll add to the classic story. On top of that, “A Christmas Carol” is a timeless tale, and it has been awhile since a studio has been able to churn out a decent rendition of it. I’m not saying that this movie will be great, or even that it’ll do the story justice, but the casting is too wild to not get excited for.
From NWA to “Humbug”, Ice Cube has continually been a juggernaut in the box office and music studio. Luckily for us, he’s showing no sign of slowing down, and anyone who would want him to is, well, just being a Scrooge…… I couldn’t help myself. In all seriousness, I am excited for this movie to release, as Ice Cube has become a personality who I am always eager to watch. So, what do you guys think? Are you excited? Or is this just another cheesy remake to be booed and avoided? Let’s start a discussion in the comments down below!
